Higher Standard vs. Double Standard | Roseanne Barr
I posted a video on YouTube attempting to NOT call Roseanne Barr a racist, bigot or whatever… Only because it’s been done. That horse has been beaten thoroughly. ( I hate that saying – beat a dead horse…it’s kind of funny tho!) Anyway…Some people can hold up a fake severed head of our POTUS …and they get to keep having a career. Others can tweet something bad and get their highest rated TV show canceled. I’m confused. I just don’t know if we have HIGHER standards for some or just DOUBLE standards across the board. In Vlog #7 My daughter’s school tried to deny giving me $15 change for a $5 field trip when I pulled out my $20. It was against policy to give change, and I either had to go home OR give the difference to the school as a donation. I’m not against donating in any way, but the fact that they said something cost $5 and said it was ‘against policy’ to give me change…WELL – THAT JUST RUBBED ME THE WRONG WAY. Am I off base? BLM 2017 vs. Civil Rights Movement 1960’s
There are stark differences between the 1960’s and 2017. Blacks were struggling but it seemed like we (I’m black) went about solving problems in a very different way. There were differences between what an effective protest was vs. what today’s protests are. The movements had very different ‘looks’, different ‘goals’. Punting Black History Month – It’s just not the same.
Things weren’t always this way… When I was young, a long long time ago, I was just given the facts of what was going on at the time. I recently went to see a good….well GREAT movie, Hidden Figures. My 10 year old daughter came along. This movie was right up her alley. See she joined an after school STEM program for the girls at her school. And everyone came to the school to watch the girls launch rockets they built after school. Great movie, at a great time! Now lets get on to why I’m ‘punting black history month’. ...
